JOB TITLE: Orientation and Mobility Instructor

Bridging the Blind Gap is a contracting company that provides Blind and Low Vision services and Orientation and Mobility
services for school districts throughout the states of Indiana, Illinois, and California. The goal of our company is to provide
affordable and appropriate education for our blind and visually impaired children throughout the state. We work hard to
provide these services throughout the state to the best of our abilities.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The employee will provide direct and consultative services to students in the contracted school districts. In addition, they
will attend IEP meetings either in person or virtually for each child each year when they are due. They will type up goals and
do progress reports for the student for the school year. The employee will travel from school to school and district to district
depending on the school contracts that the employee is working with. In addition, the employee may need to work with the
student out in the community to work on community-based skills depending on the student’s skill level. The company will
provide liability insurance to protect the instructor while out in the community and in the school. In addition, the employee
may work with adults through vocational rehabilitation services to provide O&M services as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Travel from school to school and district to district to provide direct and consultative services to the child.
Write IEP goals, attend the IEP meetings (either in person or virtual), and complete progress monitoring each quarter.
Fill out the appropriate paperwork for billing and timesheet every two weeks.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Education:
COMS Certification (preferred but must be obtained within 3 months of hire)
Experience:
Experience working with students that have are visually impaired and/or Blind in a school setting. Experience with adults is
welcomed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to walk long distances during O&M lessons for an extended period of time.
